My New Years Resolutions for 2019

Well it has been a crazy 2018 full of ups and downs but overall a good year for my blog! Thankyou everyone for the support this year I really appreciate every single comment, like and feedback from each and every one of you! I am really sad that christmas is over but after stuffing my face and drinking too much it is definitely time to get back into routine! So here are my new years resolutions for 2019!

1. Tone up my body by doing squats/tummy exercises regularly. I seem to never stick to the squat challenge but I am willing to give it another go!

2. Me and my partner to move out and get our own place! My main goal for 2019

3. Stick to a good sleeping routine and stop taking unnecessary naps!!

4. Keep my anxiety and depression under control

5. Post on my blog more regularly, make more youtube videos and regularly stream on twitch.

6. My social media goals are to reach 1k followers on my blog, 3k on twitter and instagram and become a twitch affiliate!

What are your goals for 2019?

Happy New Year!!!

Reflection on my 2018 New Years Resolutions

At the beginning of the year I always make new years resolutions, This year has gone so fast! I actually can’t believe it is nearly christmas!

I made a blog post last year https://thesmurfygamersblog.wordpress.com/2018/01/04/new-years-resolutions-2018/

So it is time to look back and see if I stuck to them/achieved them?

1. My big goal for this year would be to reach 1k subscribers on my YouTube channel, we are currently at 431 and I’d love to reach 500 on my blog and I am currently on 118.

I think 1k subscribers on YouTube was a bit too ambitious! But to be honest I haven’t really had the time to be making videos. I am hoping when I move out it will be a lot easier for us to have the space to make more videos but we have currently reached over 750 so I am really proud of that!

On my blog I wanted to reach 500 and I yesterday I reached it!!! which is amazing I am so grateful for all the love and support.

2. I want to post more blogs and YouTube videos more often. I don’t have a schedule right now because life can get way too busy at times.

Unfortunately life has been rather hectic and I haven’t been able to make as many videos as I’d like too but like I said hopefully when we move out it will be easier.

3. I would like to do the 30 day squat challenge, I have tried and failed before but I am determined to complete this!

I did this consistently for a month and I did see progress so I am pleased with that but I think I will try it again.

4. I want to keep my anxiety and depression under control. This was a massive issue for me in 2017 and I wrote a post about ways to deal with anxiety and depression so if you would like to give it a read here is the link https://thesmurfygamersblog.wordpress.com/2017/11/07/25-ways-to-help-manage-anxiety-and-depression/ but I want to carry on with all those things I listed in the post.

My anxiety is a lot more controlled than it used to be, been on top of taking my medication daily, eating much better than I was has helped too

5. I would like to get a new job or go to university.

When I wrote this I was currently working in a shop then in August I got a new job at a doctors surgery now I have a new job doing my dream job working with children in a nursery which I start after Christmas.

6. I would like to be able to drive, Last year I passed my driving test first time unfortunately high anxiety got the best of me but I want to overcome that fear, build up my confidences again and get back in that car!

This was a really big one I wanted to achieve and… I did it! Although I am only driving local and not to far it is a big achievement for me as I can now drive to work and home again.

Isle of Wight October 2018

I haven’t posted in a while so thought I would give you a little update on what we have been getting up too! We decided to go away for a week with our friends to the Isle of Wight. We had never gone before so this was an exciting little adventure for us!

Friday 19th – During the day I got me and Nick all packed and ready, we went shopping the day before to pick up supplies and nibbles for the journey. Nick finished work then we went to our friends house for fish and chips and stayed the night as we were leaving off early in the morning. During the evening we had a fun time playing on the Nintendo Switch. Mainly 1 2 switch and Just dance 2018!

Saturday 20th – We got up and left at 5am, drove to ferry which was at got on ferry at half 9 and got to our place at 11, unpacked then went for walk along the sea front and had lunch went home had dinner played the logo game

Sunday 21st – me and nick got up early went for a lovely walk at the sea front had fish and chips for lunch. We then went to shanklin and played at arcades and mini golf and had a lush icecream at the beach

Monday 22nd – we went to explore the needles. Had a look in the shops then we went on the flying chairs which was awesome! The one thing I’m not actually afraid of it heights so I absolutely loved it.

Tuesday 23rd – we had a lazy day and then went to wicked night at blackgang chine. It was fantastic but really spooky! We went on the Ghost train and the man put on a scary werewolf mask and made us jump when we had came out of it! He didn’t do it to anyone else only us which was hilarious. The haunted mill was fab, the wait was long but worth it. The actors were so good and made it feel real. Definitely scared the life out of us when they jump out at you in the dark and one had a chainsaw which wad terrifying. We went on the waterslide which was really fun and the teacups!

Wednesday 24th – It was such a gorgeous day so we decided to have a bbq at the beach! We sat on the rocks and had hot dogs and gin! It was lovely!

Thursday 25th – We went shopping in godshill and went to the Model Village. It was so cute seeing all the model houses and imagining what is happening in the village.

Friday 26th – We had a lovely lazy day! But because I am a fab fiancee I decided to go tesco and bought red dead redemption for my other half so we went back and played it and he loved it! We then packed most of our stuff as we had to leave early in the morning

Saturday 27th – so sad it was time to go home! We left at 9 and went to Mcdonalds for breakfast! Went to the garlic farm and went to the town to go Pop vinyl hunting but didn’t find what we wanted then travelled back to Fishbourne to catch the 1pm ferry home. We had a wonderful time and we would definitely like to go again!

June Birchbox Review!

Here we have the June Birchbox! This is my little beauty treat to myself each month!

This months box is to celebrate Birchbox 5th Birthday!

Here are the 7 lovely products I received in this months birchbox including the keepsake tin!

This months Birchbox came in such a pretty keepsake tin! Which is really handy to put little bits and bobs in! I love the floral pattern!

Benefit – POREfessional Pearl Primer RRP: £27.50

I have been seeing this and wanting to try this for a long time so i’m rather pleased it came in this months box! Honestly I love the silky feeling it does to my skin and it is not oily which is fab! I used it under makeup and found it really did help with my pores especially on the side of my nose which is where my face is most oily, I will probably use this product again!

Ella Eden – Compact Eyeshadow RRP: £12.99

I was excited to find out this was coming in this months box! I absolutely love the shade! It is so light and shimmery. Great for going out/party make up! I will definitely be using this more often!

Whittard Of Chelsea – Teabags

Unfortunately I’m not a tea lover but I will give it to a friend.

Polaar – Velvety Sub Fluid Fave & Body RRP: £25

I thought this was a perfect product for this time of year! I only ever put on Nivea sun cream but I thought this would be worth trying. It was easily to apply with no white residue and it disappears rather quickly into the skin and doesn’t feel sticky which is great! Although personally what I love about wearing sun cream is the smell of it as it is the smell of summer! But unfortunately this one didn’t really smell of anything which was a shame. I think I will stick to Nivea!

Number 4 – Jour d’automne Smoothing Balm RRP: £24.50

After using this product my hair did feel very silky, smooth and easier to manage! At first I thought it would be really oily but it wasn’t! Although it is rather pricey! I suppose if it want so pricey I would buy the full size.

The Works – Deep Sleep Pillow Spray RRP: £16

I suffer really badly with anxiety and I was really pleased to see this in the box, I normally don’t have trouble sleeping but I put this on a tissue during a panic attack and the smell of lavender really did help to calm me down. I think this will be a must have!

If you received the June Birchbox, I would be interested in hearing about what you thought of the products! So feel free to leave a comment below!

One Lovely Blog Award

Thankyou Emma for nominating me for the one lovely blog award! I love doing these sorts of posts!

The Rules:

  • Acknowledge, link back and thank the blog that nominated you
  • Display the award + rules in your blog
  • Tell your subscribers seven things about you.
  • Re-nominate 10-15 people

Seven Facts About Me

  1. I love gaming. I have lots of consoles such as playstation, xbox, nintendo switch, dreamcast, game cube etc. Gaming is my favourite way of chilling out and keeping my mind focused on something positive. I have been a gamer ever since I was little, my first console was sega megadrive which I loved playing sonic!
  2. I have a YouTube channel. As some of you might know I make YouTube videos with my partner. We unbox pokemon and yu gi oh cards! I get so excited especially when we pull some awesome rares! At the moment I am trying to record game play but unfortunately having technical problems has made things rather difficult but I am hoping to get that sorted and get lots of gameplay uploaded in the future!
  3. I have a car. I passed my driving test first time 5 minors which was a miracle! I think that would be my biggest achievement of 2017
  4. I am a chocoholic. There is never a time I am not munching on a chocolate bar! Buttons are my favourite! My bag is always full of treats!
  5. I always have my nails painted. Getting my nails done is my self care time which is really important to do once in a while! I usually have gels but on a special occasion i’ll have acrylics! I like to have a different colours every time! Lots of sparkles and glitter!
  6. I don’t have many friends. I have one main true friend who has been with me since I was at pre school at the age of 5 her name is Kate. I find it really hard to make friends as I struggle in social situations, I got bullied a lot in school for my height because I was short and my learning disability so I lost all my confidence and preferred to be alone so no one could upset me. One true friend means more to me than being popular and having a group of fake friends.
  7. I love travelling. When I was younger I never went away, I always stayed at home. Since being with my partner in 2016 we have travelled a lot and I realised there is a big wide world out there! My first holiday was Ibiza! It was the happiest day of my life as my other half proposed to me!

April Birchbox Review!

Here we have the April Birchbox! This is my little beauty treat to myself each month!

This months theme is sunshine and smiles! In honour of Cath Kidston’s 25th Birthday!

I love Cath Kidston products so I was really excited to receive this!

Unfortunately my review is a little late due to my box getting lost in the post but I emailed Birchbox and they kindly sent me a new one!

Here are the 5 lovely products I received in this months birchbox!

ModelCo Baked Highlighter (Frosè) RRP: £24

I never wear highlighter but this may change that! I love the pink shimmery glow it gives, although it is a rather small sample I shall use it more often.

Beautaniq Beauty Fill + Tame Brow Gel (Brunette) RRP: £8.60

I use brow gel a lot but mainly just to shape my brows not to make them thicker, this brow gel made my eyebrows definitely look bold and thicker, it looked better when it was blended in. I might just use this on occasions but it is good if you want the thick effect.

Cath Kidston Hand Cream RRP: £2.50

I have used this before and loved it so I was really happy when this came in the box, smells lush, reminds me of summer and I love the floral packaging! Not greasy at all and absorbs into skin very quickly making hands feel silky and smooth! It is going straight in my handbag! Definitely recommend!

PARLOR Volumising Lifting Spray by Jeff Chastain RRP: £18.50

I tried this on my side fringe and it gave a nice boost and bounce effect to my hair and smells really nice! Might think about buying the full size

Birchbox Brush Cleaner RRP: £5

Great product, very handy for cleaning brushes.

If you received the April Birchbox, I would be interested in hearing about what you thought of the products! So feel free to leave a comment below!

March Birchbox Review!

Here we have the March Birchbox! This is my little beauty treat to myself each month!

This months theme is Mindfulness! It is so important to remember to look after yourself and this box of treats were great for doing just that! I love the design and colours of the box it looks so bright and relaxing which is perfect for the theme!

Here are the 5 lovely products I received in this months birchbox!

BLAQ Peel Off Mask RRP: £14

It made my skin feel nice and smooth but it wasn’t very easy peeling it off, it hurt a bit. It was rather sticky and I don’t think it did much for my pores so I probably won’t use this again.

Benefit BADgal BANG! Volumising Mascara RRP: £21.50

This is the product everyone has been talking about at the moment and I have been so excited to try it!

Here is a before photo!

Here is the after photo!

As you can see my lashes have amazing volume and I am so happy there was no clumps at all! It was so easy to apply, lasts all day and I didn’t have to keep putting more layers on which I usually have to and also usually my eyelashes stick together but this mascara made them separated. Very pleased with this and will definitely buy it. Amazing!

Lumene Valo (Light) Boost Essence RRP: £29.90.

Honestly I didn’t use this product as I don’t wear foundation so this wasn’t the product for me.

R + Co Badlands Dry Shampoo RRP: £22

I used this on a day which my hair was starting to look ready for a wash. It smells really lovely and it made my hair not look so greasy but I didn’t like that I can feel the dry paste in my hair all day I would describe it as gritty and it’s really knotty when I brush it, I looked closely at the beginning I could see little white bits of the paste, looks like dandruff but gave it a few hours and I couldn’t see it anymore. It made my hair feel so gritty I ended up deciding to wash it, I don’t think I will use this again.

Baija Gommage Festin Royal Body Scrub RRP: £14.90

Gorgeous smell of caramelised honey! It made my skin feel nice and soft, I am not usually a big fan of scrubs but this one I will definitely use again

If you received the March Birchbox, I would be interested in hearing about what you thought of the products! So feel free to leave a comment below!

February Birchbox Review!

Here we have the February Birchbox! This is my little beauty treat to myself each month!

There was a choice between three box designs as this months theme was beauty through the decades! I chose 90s because I am a 90s baby! But the 70s and 80s boxes looked really cool too!

Here are the 5 lovely products i received in this months birchbox!

The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio in Love You So Latte (Full Size) RRP: £7

These are a gorgeous colour! All three colours blended very nicely together, I really love the middle one as it gives a lovely shimmery look! Will definitely use this on a night out!

Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask RRP: £32

When I opened the birchbox I wondered where that amazing smell was coming from and it was this! This really made my hair look and feel great! Think I will buy the full product in the future.

Percy & Reed Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish RRP: £10

This smells lush! But after using it made my hair look greasy, although i’m not sure if it is just because of my hair type but this was just not for me.

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Pixi Pink (Full Size) RRP: £8

I love trying out lip balms, shea butter is my favourite but it didn’t apply very smoothly and I notice it didn’t exactly moisturise my lips and that is mainly the reason why I use lip balm so unfortunately it didn’t cut it for me

ModelCo Green Concealer (Full Size) RRP: £14

I suffer with dark blemishes on the sides of my nose, I never really found a product that was good enough to hide it and look natural, although this worked wonders for me, so happy this came with my birchbox as this will be added to my every day makeup

If you received the February Birchbox, I would be interested in hearing about what you thought of the products! So feel free to leave a comment below!

What Is In My Makeup Bag?

Hey!

I recently uploaded a photo of my awesome wonder women makeup bag on Instagram! Got a few comments that you lovely people want to see what is inside! It is rather a big makeup bag so I can fit loads inside which is very useful if I am travelling. I bought this in the January sale at Tesco and I love it!

Rimmel, Wonder Wing Black Eyeliner – Superdrug RRP: £5.99

Lord & Berry, Peach Blusher Crayon – Birchbox RRP: £15

Soap and Glory, Hand Food Hand Cream, Mini – Boots RRP: £2.50

Soap and Glory, Sexy Mother Pucker Lipstick – Boots RRP: £9.00

Dove, Go Fresh Antiperspirant Roll On, Boots RRP: £1.50

Maybelline, Master Brow Pro Palette – Superdrug RRP: £8.99

Maybelline, Lash Sensational Lash Mascara – Superdrug RRP: £8.99

Vaseline Lip Therapy Tin Rosy Lips – Boots RRP: £1.95

Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer – Boots RRP: £10.00

Diego Dalla Palma Volumizing Eyebrow Fixer – Marks and Spencer RRP: £13.00

These are my main daily essentials, let me know if you use any of the products and what you think about them ☺️

January Birchbox Review!

This is my first Birchbox subscription box so I was really excited for it to arrive, try the products and write a review!

On the day it arrived the delivery driver left it outside in the rain so the box was drenched and I had to put it beside the radiator and wait for the box to dry but luckily the contents inside was safe.

Once it had dried out I tried it all the products straight away and here is what I thought.

These are the 5 products I received although contents may vary.

Lord & Berry – Peach blusher crayon (Full size) RRP: £15

My first thought was it may be too light for face because it was a bright peachy colour but actually it was perfect for my skin colour! I am very pale and needed something to give me a bit of colour so I was extremely pleased with this and I shall use it as part of my daily makeup routine!

Laura Mercier – Foundation primer radiance RRP: £29

This product was great! Moisturises the skin and you don’t need to apply very much! I don’t tend to use foundation very much due to my skin being sensitive but it was absolutely fine when I tried this so I may use it more often!

Oribe – Dry texturizing spray RRP: from £20

On the day I used this product my hair was needing a wash, my hair is rather oily sometimes so I thought this product would help with that, Unfortunately it didn’t do anything different to my hair, although I ended up using the whole tin trying to get some effect from it and still saw no change so I was rather disappointed although what I liked about this is that it doesn’t leave powdery residue

Marcelle – Waterproof eyeliner in charcoal RRP: £10.99

I always really struggle to put eyeliner on as my hands get shakey and end up poking myself in the eye all the time but I found this rather easy to apply, I think this will be one to add to my daily makeup! It isn’t a very bold dark though.

Afterspa – amazing makeup remover RRP: £5.50

After putting all the makeup on my face I was really hoping this would work as I had ran out of makeup wipes!

I was really impressed with this! With just a bit if warm water it all came off very easily and it is really soft and nice to use on my face I would definitely recommend this product, it apparently lasts up too 1,000 washes!

After receiving this as my first Birchbox I seriously can’t wait to see what I get next month! If you received the January Birchbox, i’ll be interested in hearing about what you thought of the products!

The Rules

• Mention the person who has nominated you and link their blog below.

• Comment on the song if you have any stories or memories behind it.

• Tag 7 or more bloggers to join in.

My songs:

1. Busted – What I Go To School For

This brings back so many wonderful memories, when me and my best friend Kate were in primary school we would go over each others for sleepovers and always singing and dancing to this song and to be honest we still do now!

2. Mr probz – Waves

One of my favourites! This is the slow version and it is my sleepy song!

3. Trivium – Endless Night

This song is always on repeat at the moment! Love it!

4. Kelly Clarkson – Because of you

This song brings back a lot of personal memories.. I always listened to this song on those sleepless nights when I was younger crying myself to sleep

5. A Great Big World – You’ll Be Okay Another one of those songs I always listened too for the same reason I explained in the song above. Such a positive song and keeps me going.

6. Tweenies – Best Friends Forever

Well.. this one is rather embarrassing haha! I keep this song on my playlist as it brings back the lovely memories when I was younger and my brother was a toddler, this was the song that we always danced too together and I pretended to be a pop star!

7. Eminem – Space bound

Great memories of this song, me and Selina rap this song together

8. Jason Derulo – Want To Want Me

My dance moves get really sexy when this song comes on!

9. Flo Rida – Wild ones

This was my getting ready for college tune as it was always on the radio at 6am eating my breakfast and dancing in the kitchen!

10. Wiley – Heatwave

This just hits me with the summer vibe! Reminds me of at my previous job this was our summer tune! Me and kids always danced to this!

11. John Legend – All Of Me

The song every girl wants their man to sing to her, such a beautiful song.

12. Chicago – You’re the inspiration

Me and my other half chosen this song to be our first dance at our wedding! Also it is on the deadpool soundtrack!

13. Rihanna – Diamonds

This song makes me so upset as it was playing most of the day on the radio when I heard the news my nanny passed away.

14. Basshunter – now you’re gone

My high school tune! Basshunter was my favourite back then, always banging out this tune on the bus

15. Jay sean – down

Another old tune! But I loved the midnight beasts parady to this song

Well.. that was a very mixed emotion shuffle on my spotify playlist!

November Favourites and Update 2017

How is it already the end of November!? Time just flies by and I can’t catch up with what day it is!

November is one of my favourite months as it is getting exciting to the run up to Christmas! This month if you have been looking on my social media you will see that we went on an amazing holiday to one of the places which was on my bucket list

New York City! It was amazing! (I will write a blog all about it as I could go on forever about what we done and how wonderful it was! We will soon be uploading our New York vlog on our YouTube channel! If you are interested in watching it, it will be uploaded here very soon. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM0DViPDdOgk-N6bK8gg6xg Remember to subscribe and click on the bell to be notified on our recent uploads!

The photo below is the view from the top of Rockefeller centre at night! It was absolutely breath taking! New York was the highlight of our November 2017!

Here are my November 2017 favourites!Costa Drinks Menu

Nothing better than on a cold November day to go into Costa and have a lovely hot cosy christmassy drink! My favourite is Lindt hot chocolate!

Tesco Christmas Throw

It is so snuggly and makes your room much more cosy and keeps you warm in the cold nights! I got mine for £6 at tesco which I think is a great price for it

Yankee Candle Christmas Cookie

This candle smells lush and gets you feeling in the christmas cosy spirit. I am a massive lover of yankee candles

I Love Lots Of Bubbles Shower Gel Collection

I always get this gift at Christmas from my mum, This comes with 6 gorgeous festive scents. I always use 3 at Christmas and save the other 3 for the next November as the smells remind of the Christmas season! They may be shower gel but if I fancy a lovely hot bath they do make lots of bubbles and are perfect for relaxing!

One Christmas Kiss In Notting Hill

I bought this book in WHSmith at the airport coming home from New York and thought it would be nice christmassy romantic book to read so i’m going to give it a go and might do a review on it at some point

Hope you have enjoyed reading this and comment below your November favourites 🙂

25 Ways To Help Manage Anxiety And Depression

Hey guys

This is a bit more of a personal blog.. I suffer with a few mental illnesses, two of these being high anxiety and depression which I was diagnosed a few years ago and I am still currently fighting.

I thought I would make this blog as I’d like to help others who are fighting from mental illnesses, Here are a few things I personally do to help get through the extremely tough times. I really hope these tips help you but these may not work for everyone but I definitely recommend it is worth giving them a try.

1. Writing lists, lists and more lists!

I find this helps me so much to organise myself, daily, weekly, yearly. Even if it is summer and I feel a bit down i’ll start writing my christmas list or a list of things that I need to buy and need to do! Lists are awesome!

2. Reading.

Reading a good book you enjoy and really getting into it and using your imagination is great to zone out! Although if i’m honest my mind sometimes wonders off and I start thinking about all the things that worry me but reading might be helpful to others.

3. Colouring.

Great activity to do at any age! Although same again with this one my mind wonders but I know a lot of people who benefit from mindfulness colouring books.

4. Wear your favourite pjs, snuggle in a cosy blanket, get a hot drink, favourite chocolate and watch a disney film.

If you are ever worried or stressed get your pjs on and get a cosy blanket and watch your favourite disney film! These are best because there is always a happy ending!

5. A relaxing bubble bath.

This is my number one thing to do when I’m having a bad day! Baths are the best especially with lots of bubbles and candles.

6. Exercise/or just going for a nice walk.

They say exercise is a really good thing to help overcome mental illnesses but if i’m honest, I’m not really one for hitting the gym as it is difficult enough just to have the motivation to get out of bed but honestly try and push yourself to go for a little walk. Fresh air does the world of good, if you feel anxious about walking on your own take a family member or your dog for walk.

7. Making YouTube videos and doing a written blog.

This is pretty much the reason I started doing YouTube videos and written blogs with my other half. It gives my mind something positive to focus on, It has given me the opportunity to speak to some really lovely people and the support we have is amazing and we really appreciate it! Since I started doing this it has helped build my confidence.

8. Bucket list.

A bucket list is a great way to motivate you and get you excited for your future even though the thought of the future is scary, having a bucket list really helps with positive thoughts

9. Love yourself

I know this can be a very hard thing to do sometimes when you feel down but loving yourself is the most important thing to do!Try doing a poster of all the good things about yourself! I found it helped having someone write good things about me.

Here is a picture of the poster I done with my counsellor on our last day working together. My counsellor bought a picture frame so i could put it on my wall and it helps me to stay positive and remember to love myself and honestly this helps me so much looking back on this.

10. Gaming

Gaming is a great thing to do to help you zone out. Me and Nick really find this beneficial. It could be any game/any console it is the best way to spend quality time by yourself. The games I play mostly when I’m having a bad day/feeling stressed is.. Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and Stardew valley. These games help me to zone out feel relaxed.

11. Spending time with family/friends

I know when you feel anxious and down this can be extremely difficult some days but these are the times in your life you will treasure forever. Also talking to family/friends about your feelings can help a lot

12. Scrapbook of memories

I made a scrapbook of personal childhood memories and a scrapbook of mine and Nick’s holidays! It is great to look back on all the happy memories.

13. Paint by numbers

If you love doing arty crafty things then you’ll enjoy this! It makes you focus on this only and takes all the worries away!

14. Playing board/card games

Great way to waste time! I love doing this as it takes my mind off things and I spend time with my family and friends

15. Have a chat on the phone to your friend

I love having a chat on the phone to my best friend, i can rant about all the things on my mind and knowing although she may not fully understand she always listens and never judges me and we always have a good laugh

16. Make your bed/tidy your room

This helps me when i’m stressed although I also suffer from OCD it sometimes isn’t the best way of coping, but it takes your mind off things and you’ll feel you are back in control of your life knowing you are organised and feeling proud when you have accomplished the task. Also if there is one day when you really don’t feel like doing anything, try and make your bed as you will get back into it at night and know you have achieved something that day.

17. Soft cuddly toys

Nick bought me a Koala bear and he is so soft and fluffy! Larry the koala is always there for cuddles and helps me to feel relaxed. I love soft cuddly toys!

18. Listen to music

Heavy metal always helps when you feel angry. Just don’t listen to sad songs!

19. Paint your nails/pamper

I’m not a real girly girl as I’m not all into makeup and stuff but I do have my moments, having a good pamper sesh is lovely! Paint your nails, do something different with your hair! It takes up a bit of time and it may help you feel a bit more confident

20. Crying

Crying is the best way to release all the frustration and sadness. I find it helps after having a good cry even if it does last for a long time you’ll feel a bit better afterwards.

21. Write down your plans on a calendar

Again being organised is a good way to help control anxiety. Knowing what you are doing the next day and planning ahead is helpful

22. Make your bedroom a display of memories

Printing off photos of you and your friends and family and putting them on your bedroom wall is a great reminder when you wake up in the morning and look at all the happy memories.

23. Antidepressants

I’ll talk a little about my personal experience with this subject.. The doctor suggested me to go on antidepressants in 2012, I was stubborn and refused as I thought I would be able to cope, so i kept on fighting, It had taken me until this June 2017 (5 years) then I started taking them, honestly I wish i did start them before but the anxiety of taking them was stopping me, although I needed them to help the anxiety. So I was just going around in circles and it got to the point I couldn’t cope with feeling like that anymore. I do feel more level with my moods and not so anxious but they do take a bit of time to kick in. One thing I would say is don’t let the anxiety of taking them stop you and never feel embarrassed about taking them.

24. Positive quote book

When I was going through some really tough times I used to search on the internet for positive quotes, Pinterest is a great way of finding and saving those quotes, I would find some good motivational, positive, relatable quotes and write them in a book and make the fonts look good. I found it helped to look back on when I felt down.

25. Counselling and getting some support

It is really important if you feel anxiety and depression is taking over your life. Don’t be afraid to go to the GP as they are there to help, they can help by referring you to see a counsellor which i throughly recommend as it helped me so much, the first time it is very scary meeting someone but as weeks go by you’ll develop a relationship of trust, their job is to listen and they are non judgemental. Talking about your worries really does help as they can give you advice and tips and just having someone there to listen, I had counselling for 2 years at first I thought seriously how is talking going to help? But as time went by I could notice the difference and it really helped me reduce and manage my mental illnesses.

Please comment if any of these tips have helped you and I am interested in any tips you would recommend!

I’m thinking about turning these tips into a YouTube video when I’ve built up my confidence a bit more and maybe do a personal blog of my story in the future.

Stay positive and keep on fighting!

-Sophie

The Killer App for the Nintendo Switch? Mario and Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Written Review)

By TheSmurfyGamers 21/09/2017

As a long standing XCOM and strategy gamer for going over a decade and the idea of a portable way to get that strategy fix is too good to be true….And then somehow Rabbids was the answer.

This crossover video game was developed and published by UBISOFT, collaboration with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. Released on 29th August 2017.

Now I’ve never been a fan of the rabbids, I played ‘Raving Rabbids’ on Nintendo DS and found them rather annoying thought they were primarily aiming for a much younger audience, which is fine, but those games would mostly populate the party game space.

So when the announcement at UBISOFT’s E3 2017 press conference was for a new game for the switch involving rabbids I sighed and rolled my eyes at the prospect with bad memories of the Nintendo’s Wii’s endless wave of shuffle ware and party games. But like a lot of people watching the conference I was so surprised about what we got. The rabbids and Mario characters in a new strategy game with similar play to the XCOM series? Fantastic! If not original, but still exciting.

Now we have it our hands how does it hold up. This is turn based tactical game using movement system most comparable to XCOM and its own grid based movement. It uses a chance-to-hit mechanic depending on the position of characters, for example if the character is behind cover, just like XCOM, but only uses 0%, 50% and 100% chances of a hit.  Your squad will comprise of 3 characters from a variety of characters from Mario, Peach and Yoshi to their rabbid counterparts rabbid Mario and the psychotic as hell rabbid peach. Each character has a variety of weapons and abilities which impressively have a lot of depth with the movement system as well as what they can actually do with them. Now a lot of people, including myself, will give this game the identity of XCOM with a Mario and rabbid paint job. To an extent I have to agree but in terms of what the fun factor is in this game it’s an absolutely fantastic experience and was pleasantly surprised and so happy I was wrong of its first impressions at E3. A variety of new movement mechanics such as the jump off your other squad member, which in of itself presents funny animations, but also allows for a way to extend character movement to cover greater distances. Making movement much more dynamic and interesting for different ways of taking on your enemies. Overall in terms of the new mechanics meshed with inspiration of previous turn based tactical games the gameplay becomes very apparent with its amount of depth. Easy to learn but can be hard to master is you want to score perfect on a lot of the worlds.

So the story begins starting in the human world, a teenage inventor who is obviously a massive Nintendo fan with lots of Mario paraphernalia in her room, she is humming away and comes up with the creation of the “Supermerge” (VR goggles) which combines two different objects together, unfortunately her invention overheats again so she storms off and leaves her floating robot beep-o behind (who also allows the player to direct movement in the over world before battle). Suddenly the rabbids randomly appear in the inventor’s room in a time travelling washing machine and messing around causing complete chaos. One of the rabbids puts on the “Supermerge” and turns the rabbids into Mario characters, the travelling washing machine absorbs of all the rabbids and beep-o and it teleports them to the mushroom kingdom where everything is combined and the rabbids continue causing the chaos. Rabbid peach and rabbid Luigi team up with Mario to find the rabbid wearing the “Supermerge” to save the mushroom kingdom.

In this strategy game it is important to plan every step of your movement, take cover and attacking using their abilities which each character will have different abilities, it is up to you to choose what abilities each of your characters have by the skill tree. You can choose from a wide range of weapons to upgrade using the coins you collect throughout the map. These weapons will help in different ways such as honey can make the enemies stuck for a turn, bounce will make the enemy go flying in the air, ink will stop an enemies attack it’s all down to you to choose these weapons and attacks depending on how you want your team to play. Some weapons can harm your team mates if you are close to them when attacking so you need to be careful. You have 3 members in your team and you can unlock new characters. You can also jump on the enemies which will harm them, during your movement phase and then you use your weapons or you can do vice versa. So there is choice in terms of playing with a lot of strategy when engaging a variety of enemies and boss battles.

I haven’t had any technical difficulties with the game so far. It is great to play on the go at 720p 30fps or docked playing at 900p 30fps. So it runs very well, plays great and looks great.

There is a couch co-op multiplayer but no online co-op multiplayer or online campaign. Each team gets to choose 2 characters and the type of game you want to play.

In the end this game is extremely fun and quirky in owns right.  Rabbid peach is my favourite because she is just so sassy and well as borderline psychotic. The tutorial is very well crafted and can be learnt very quickly as it instructs all of the basic mechanics you need as well as how you can combine a lot of these mechanics to overcome your enemies.

If you are a fan if XCOM I’m sure you will enjoy this. And we believe that this is the killer app for the Nintendo Switch, cannot recommend it enough.

Just can’t believe that one of our favourite games of the year involves rabbids…

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is available for Nintendo Switch and retails for £43.99 (Physical Copy), £49.99 (From Nintendo e-shop) and in the US it is €59.99.

Season pass is available at $19.99, or your region equivalent, which will be split into 3 DLC parts. The first is available now, the 2nd part is available in autumn 2017 and the 3rd and final DLC will be released in 2018 (Date to be announced).
